How to choose the perfect handcrafted table to match your Salt Lake or Park City Vacation home!

There are many things to think about when designing a custom table for your space. A few questions may come to mind are:

  • What size table should I buy?

  • How do I choose the best color for my home?

  • What style top and bottom should I consider?

At West Custom Woodworks, we understand this can be an overwhelming task. Read on to discover the answer to some of those tough questions.

Why should I buy a custom, locally handcrafted Dining Table, Coffee Table or other custom-made furniture?

There are many reasons to buy a custom Dining Table, Coffee Table, or other custom furniture instead of buying from a big box store.

You choose the size and shape.

  • Have you been shopping and liked the color of one table, the style of another, and the shape of another? That won’t be an issue here as we handcraft the table to be precisely what you want!

Unmatched quality

  • Big box stores usually use cheap products such as particle boards and veneers to look like wood. Here at West Custom Woodworks, we use quality woods and construct your item to withstand the test of time.

Unbeatable value

  • Furniture is an investment; it’s worth buying the perfect item for your home so that you and your family can make memories around it for years. We can even work with you to find what wood, style, and finish works best for your space and budget.

It is no doubt that custom furniture is the way to go when you want to have your home to be a comfortable and stylish place that you love to be in!

What size should my custom table be?

The average table can range from 72 to 96 inches in length and 36 to 40 inches wide. However, these sizes may not always fit your needs. In general, a 72” x 36” table can seat six people, while 96” x 40” can seat around eight. We offer custom sizing to best fit your kitchen or dining room.

My space is small but I have a large family, what do I do?

In these cases, we offer several different styles of table bottoms that will provide additional legroom to ensure there's enough space for everyone at your table. We recommend 4-Post leg styles as they take up very little space under the table allowing more legroom.

What style bespoke table should I choose?

A few common styles are Farmhouse, Modern and Rustic.

A Farmhouse Kitchen Table should be cute and not too busy on top.

  • Our Classic Farmhouse Table is great for that. It features a timeless X-Leg Base and straight boards on top.

  • Herringbone would also make a stunning Farmhouse table.

A Modern Dining Table should be clean and simple but catch your eye. A great combination is a large, beautiful slab of wood atop a modern U-Shaped base made of metal or wood.

  • Herringbone and Chevron also pair well with a modern style.

A Rustic Table will often have a simple top commonly featuring knotty pine, in a natural color with a simple 4-post base.

  • 4” x 4” solid wood posts are a great design choice for any custom rustic furniture

Choosing colors for your custom table

The colors you choose for your dining table should complement your space, here are a few things to consider:

  • What color and style are your floors? If they are deep brown hardwood, you may want to look at the tones throughout the woodgrain for the tabletop and consider a whitewashed bottom; this will help keep the top of the table the focal point.

  • What colors are in your kitchen? If the cabinets are white with notes of grey on the countertop and white tile, you may want to consider similar colors on your table.

  • Can you see any other rooms from your dining area? What colors are in those rooms? The color of the window trim and wall paint should all be considered.

We can look at things like these to use color cues from around your home and incorporate them into the table.

What options do I have for seating around my dining table?

Although, we don’t currently have the tooling necessary to create the complicated curves often found in chairs. We are happy to make a table to match the chairs you purchase or want to reuse from your previous table.

We also offer benches to match your new dining table, which is great for making the most of the space.
